2023: Sen Ekwunife vows to be a strong voice as Monarchs, PGs, Peter Obi, Ben Obi, Others Back her Re-election Bid (Watch Video)



The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Iyom Uche Ekwunife, has promised her constituents to remain a voice to be reckoned with at the Senate while promising to attract more democracy dividends to the Senatorial District. Senator Ekwunife stated this on Wednesday during a stakeholders briefing/Town Hall meeting at her events centre in Awka.

The annual event, which was a platform for the Senator to interact with constituents, was graced by the former governor of Anambra State and Presidential hopeful under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Peter Obi; the member representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Hon Obinna Chidoka; the member representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Hon Sam Onwuaso; State Assembly members,Traditional Rulers, Presidents- General, the Clergy and other prominent stakeholders of the Anambra Central Senatorial District.

In his opening remark, the Chairman of the Occasion, High Chief Senator Ben Ndi Obi, lauded Ekwunife for offering the people of the Senatorial District purposeful representation, adding that constituents were testifying of the good works of the lawmaker.

“Anambra Central is very lucky to have a Lawmaker like Ekwunife,” he remarked.

Continuing, Senator Obi said that Ekwunife had represented the people well, calling for total support to be given to her as she sought to renew her mandate.

Presenting her address entitled, “Anambra Central: The Journey So Far,” Senator Ekwunife while declaring her intention to seek re-election, pledged to continue to work tirelessly to give the people strong and vocal representation as well as attract more dividends of democracy to the Senatorial District.

She presented an 80-page newsletter, which highlighted her achievements in the 9th Senate.

“What we have achieved in the last two and half years is a litmus test of what we can achieve if you once again grant me your mandate. I urge you to join me in this journey of building the Senatorial District of our dream.

“With your support, I will continue to raise the bar and offer a representation that is vocal, effective, unmatched and people-oriented,” the grassroots-friendly lawmaker said.

In his remark, Mr. Peter Obi, while describing Ekwunife as a good woman, said that what the country needed were leaders who could change the fortunes of the nation.

He decried the current security situation in Nigeria, saying that the insecurity and dwindling state of the nation’s economy were inextricable.

The PDP presidential aspirant said that the country must move from consumption-driven to production driven economy in order to rise from its current backward state.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the traditional ruler of Ojoto Community, HRH Igwe Gerald Mbamalu,
said that the traditional rulers of Anambra Central communities were impressed with Ekwunife’s performance in the Senate and were giving her their full blessings as she sought to return to the upper legislative chamber.

Others who spoke included the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Anambra State Chapter, Chief Emeka Udodeme; and the PRO, Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), Engr. Edwin Umeghalu.

Chief Udodeme while hailing Ekwunife for her inspiring representation, noted that the lawmaker’s achievements were visible and verifiable.

For his part, Engr. Umeghalu pledged that members of ASATU would support Ekwunife to enable her to consolidate on her achievements.

Highlight of the event was a motion moved by Hon. Sam Onwuaso and Dr C. C. Okeke endorsing Obi and Ekwunife for President and Senate respectively and the motion was unanimously adopted by the gathering.
