The Enugu State Government has commenced the compulsory use of its newly constructed bus terminals for all passenger loading and off-loading, as part of efforts to modernise and regulate urban transportation across the state.

The directive followed a stakeholders’ sensitisation meeting held in Enugu, which brought together government officials, security agencies, transport unions, regulatory bodies, and local government representatives.

In a communiqué jointly signed by Dr. John Egbo, Managing Director of Enugu East Zone Bus Terminals, and Prince Emeka Mamah, Managing Director of Enugu North Zone Bus Terminals, all passenger vehicles are now required to operate strictly from designated terminals.

Under the new framework:

Luxury buses will operate from Holy Ghost Bus Terminal 2.

Tricycles and intra-city minibuses are restricted to off-loading passengers at designated terminals, effectively ending roadside pick-ups and drop-offs.

Terminal shops are to commence business immediately, with additional units available for prospective occupants.

The policy introduces a cashless revenue system, prohibiting collection by non-state actors within or around the terminals. All payments are to be made through government-approved digital platforms to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficiency.

Security and enforcement agencies—including the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigerian Correctional Service—have pledged full compliance. They will work in collaboration with terminal management, transport authorities, and local government councils to enforce the new regulations.

Local governments in Enugu North, Enugu East, Enugu South, and Nsukka also expressed full support, reinforcing a multi-tiered approach to implementation.

Stakeholders adopted the Use of Enugu State Bus Terminals Policy as the guiding framework for operations, describing it as a critical step toward improved commuter safety, operational efficiency, and order within the state’s transport sector.

The meeting commended Governor Peter Mbah for the development of the ultra-modern terminals, hailed as a model for organised transport infrastructure in the South-East, and welcomed the reduction in terminal toll fees as an incentive for compliance.

Among those in attendance were the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Osinachi Nnajieze; representatives of the Commissioner for Transport; the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command; chairmen and representatives of local governments in Enugu North, Enugu South, and Nsukka; divisional police officers; FRSC and NSCDC officials; transport union leaders; and other key stakeholders in the sector.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has inaugurated party caretaker committee for each of the 21 local government areas in Adamawa State.

Members of the new temporary leaderships at the local government level include a chairman, a secretary and three ex-officials for each of the local council areas.

The new leadership, assembled by appointment, are tasked with handling the affairs of the party before the conduct of elections as enshrined in the PDP constitution.

Administering the oath of office on the interim officials, a legal practitioner picked for the assignment, John Tunoh charged the interim committee members to adhere to the provisions of the PDP and national constitutions.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Yola, the state interim PDP chairman, Belmont Dogo told the new leaders that the strength of any political party lies in its structure at the grassroots.

“As local government caretaker committee members, you represent the engine room of the party in your respective areas,” he said, adding, “It is your responsibility to help reposition the party, rebuild confidence among our members, and prepare the ground for future successes.”

Responding on behalf of the caretaker committee members, the caretaker chairman of Fufore Local Government Area, Inuwa Umar, pledged to contribute to the growth of the party.

DAILY POST reports that the PDP in Adamawa State needs new strategy after most notable members left its fold, especially after Governor Ahmadu Fintiri led the way last month, February 27, when he officially announced his defection from the party.

Fintiri, including all his commissioners, special advisers and other appointees as well as PDP members in the national and state House of Assembly are now in the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. O.O. Oluyede, and Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, have arrived in Maiduguri, Borno State, following a triple bombing on Monday evening that claimed 23 lives and left 108 people injured.

It is reported that both officers landed on Wednesday in a white and red-painted jet at the Maiduguri Air Force Base.

It was earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu directed the service chiefs to relocate to the state in response to the attacks.

In a statement posted on his official X handle on Tuesday, the President mourned those who lost their lives and commended troops for repelling coordinated assaults on military positions.

“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies operating in various theatres,” President Tinubu said.

He added that he had instructed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge and ordered emergency agencies to provide care for the injured.

“I have directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation. I have also directed the emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured,” he stated.

On arrival, the CDS and COAS were received by the Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai, the GOC, and other top military officials at the Maiduguri Air Force Base.
