The Achi Clan of Oji River Local Government Area in Enugu State has unanimously endorsed Governor Peter Mbah as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election, citing his leadership style and performance since assuming office.

The endorsement was announced on Sunday during a civic reception organised in the governor’s honour at St. Mary’s Field Court, Achi.

The event was attended by traditional rulers, political leaders, youth and women groups drawn from the nine electoral wards that make up the clan.

Chairman of the Oji River Local Government Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Chima Achiekwelu, said the decision was a reflection of the clan’s appreciation of what he described as the governor’s visible achievements across the state. He said the traditional institution had resolved to mobilise full support for the governor’s re-election bid.

Speaking on behalf of the Achi Clan, Chairman of the Central Organising Committee, Dr Okey Ibeabuchi, commended the Mbah administration’s investments in education, healthcare, agriculture, security, tourism and aviation, including the establishment of Smart Green Schools, Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, the Enugu International Conference Centre and Enugu Air.

He said the initiatives had helped restore public confidence in governance.
The clan also acknowledged the inclusion of Achi indigenes in key government positions and appealed for the full operationalisation of the four development centres created in Oji River Local Government Area, requesting that two be allocated to Achi in view of its population size.

Further requests included the construction of the Achi–Ehuhe–Udi Road and the Achi Court–Amankpunato–Amoli–Ihe Road, the establishment of a tertiary institution campus in Achi, and the rehabilitation of the Achi Joint Hospital.

Chairman of Oji River Local Government Area, Engr. Greg Anyadike, praised the governor for what he described as people-focused governance, particularly the siting of Green Smart Schools and primary healthcare facilities across the council area.

In his response, Governor Mbah thanked the community for the endorsement and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive, grassroots-driven development.

He disclosed that the two major road projects requested by the clan had been captured in the 2026 budget, with mobilisation to site expected before the next rainy season.

The governor also announced plans to establish agricultural estates across wards, upgrade the veterinary school in Achi, and elevate the School of Health Technology to a full-fledged nursing college offering OND and HND programmes.

Governor Mbah said his administration would continue to strengthen public service delivery and uphold its social contract with the people of Enugu State.
