E-Registration: Gov. Mbah Targets Two Million APC Members in Enugu, Declares End to “Fringe Politics”

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has set a target of registering at least two million members for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, declaring that the era of “fragmented” or fringe politics that sidelined Enugu from federal benefits was over.

Gov.. Mbah spoke on Thursday at Owo in Nkanu East Local Government Area during the flag-off of the APC’s electronic membership registration exercise.

He described the exercise as a decisive step in consolidating the recent political realignment from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, saying Enugu must now align firmly with the party at the centre to secure greater dividends of governance.

“We no longer want to be on the sidelines. We want to be at the centre and play dominant politics,” the governor said, adding that the state could not continue to deliver minimal electoral support at the national level and expect maximum federal attention in return.

According to him, the two-million-member target reflects the scale of the political movement in the state and the need to entrench the APC at household, community and institutional levels.

Gov. Mbah stressed that the e-registration exercise was not intended to displace existing party members but to strengthen the party through inclusion, discipline and transparency.

“We have not come to displace anyone. We have come to co-mingle, increase our numbers and make the party stronger,” he said, urging party officials to ensure fairness and openness in the registration process.

The governor also linked the political realignment to President Bola Tinubu’s policies, particularly the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, which he said was designed to directly empower millions of Nigerians and reduce poverty at the grassroots.

Earlier, the APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Emma Eneukwu, and the chairman of the party’s Enugu State caretaker committee, Dr. Ben Nwoye, said the e-registration exercise was aimed at digitising the party’s membership database and aligning it with modern political practices.

Chief Eneukwu said the adoption of electronic registration would help the party accurately determine its strength and voting capacity, noting that the process requires the National Identification Number (NIN) to ensure credibility and transparency.
