Nigerians Willing to Leave Iran Escorted Across Armenian Border – NIDCOM

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) says willing
Nigerians in Iran are being safely escorted across the Armenia border by
officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran.

In a statement posted on X, NIDCOM said the move was to
“ensure smooth and secure passage for those wishing to leave the country”.

“No Nigerian in Iran has been affected by the conflict so
far, with government officials remaining stationed at the border to receive and
assist all evacuees,” the statement reads.

“The Federal Government is vigilant and effectively
responding to the safety and well-being of Nigerians across the world,”

NIDCOM noted that the coordination of the safe passage for
citizens is being done in collaboration with Armenian authorities.

The commission said government officials remain stationed at
the border to receive and assist all evacuees.

Meanwhile, at least one Nigerian has been identified among
122 persons injured by the interception of Iranian ballistic missiles in the
United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The UAE’s Ministry of Defence did not specify the number of
nationalities affected per country.

It is unclear how many Nigerians are stuck in Iran or other
countries in the Middle East affected by the ongoing conflict, but some
citizens in the Gulf states have called on the federal government to ready
repatriation flights for their evacuation.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, chairperson of NIDCOM, on Tuesday said
Nigeria would begin repatriating its citizens stranded in the Middle East once
“the airspace opens”.

NIDCOM has shared emergency hotlines for citizens in the
country to contact for assistance.
