If Atiku Runs With Obi Or Amaechi, Tinubu Will Lose – Dele Momodu

Veteran journalist and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Dele Momodu, has predicted a possible upset in the 2027 presidential election, saying a coalition ticket featuring former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a prominent southern figure such as Peter Obi or Rotimi Amaechi could end the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Momodu emphasized the power of opposition unity, stating, “I believe if we have a combination of Atiku, maybe with Peter Obi, maybe with Rotimi Amaechi, or any other person that comes from the South, Tinubu will be gone. It will be the end of Tinubu’s foundation, not the APC.”

He highlighted Atiku’s enduring political ambition and preparation, drawing parallels to Donald Trump’s persistence. “From my analysis, Atiku Abubakar even those who didn’t like Atiku before now he’s smelling like roses, because the enemy of your enemy is your friend.

“He has prepared forever, just like Donald Trump was preparing forever,” Momodu added.

Momodu expressed concern over recent defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), calling it “a sad day for democracy” and warning of risks if the PDP is left weakened with only a few governors remaining.

The comments come amid the formation of an opposition coalition under the ADC, which includes key figures such as Atiku, Obi, Amaechi, David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, and Nasir El-Rufai.

These leaders, who ran on different platforms in the 2023 elections, are now aligning to challenge the APC in 2027, with several eyed as potential presidential candidates.

The ADC has scheduled ward and state congresses starting April 7, 2026, leading up to its national convention on April 14, where further strategies may be outlined.

Momodu stressed the need for robust opposition politics, criticizing what he sees as Tinubu’s desire to run unopposed: “Tinubu wants to contest against himself, and it doesn’t make sense to me.”
