Achi Town in Enugu demands House of Representatives position in 2023

The people of Achi Town in Enugu State have unanimously demanded for a shot at the House of Representatives position for Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency come 2023.

The people made this known in a communiqué issued on Wednesday in Enugu in key resolutions passed at the general meeting of who-is-who in the community on April 17, 2022 at the community.

The communique said that Achi people had reinforced their resolve to clinch House of Representative position in 2023 and considered all political calculations and concluded that “it is indeed our time and opportunity come 2023”.

The statement said that Achi people resolved to embark on mass mobilisation of Ndi Achi (Achi people) for voter registration and sensitisation on this project.

It noted that Achi people resolved to reach out to all key stakeholders and deep pockets of Achi origins to back this project with the Achi’s Midas Touch, adding that Achi people resolved to raise a financial war chest to pursue this project.

According to the statement, Achi people noted that about seven aspirants from various political parties have emerged so far from Achi clan .

“Achi people resolved to support any indigene that emerges as candidate irrespective of political party.

“Achi people reiterated that this project is non-partisan but cuts across all political divide.

“Therefore when the time is right, we would engage all concerned to form a consensus.

“Achi people are urging all Achi delegates to vote for any consensus Achi aspirant.

“We also resolved that all aspirants will sacrifice personal interests for the overall greater interest of Achi Clan upon emergence of a consensus candidate.

“Chief Bentley Chukwujindu and Chief Jeff Uke each donated the sum of N1 million to boost our purse, while calling on other illustrious sons and daughters to also do the needful.

“Achi people were concerned that the letter previous sent to Government House on April 7 requesting an audience with the governor was yet to receive any positive response, therefore, we resolved to use other means to get the attention of His Excellency.

“A group visit to the Government House was proposed and Hon Ugo Omere was appointed on the spot to coordinate the movement,” it said.

The statement said that the Finance, Contact and Mobilization Sub-committees were also created in same meeting; while volunteers are needed urgently to work in the Sub-committees.

The communiqué was signed by the Convener, Achi House of Representative (HoR) Project, Chief Maxi Okwu; Chief Ginger Ibeneme, Team Lead, Media for Achi HoR Project and Chief Jeff Uke, an opinion leader in Achi clan.

Others are: Chief Bentley Chukwujindu, a community leader and Hon. Sam Elibe, a political leader in the community.

It would be recalled that the rotation that existed in the Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency had produced Hon. Uchenna Ekwe from Awgu,1999; Hon. K.G.B. Oguakwa from Oji River (Inyi community) and Hon. Toby Okechukwu from Awgu finishing his third term.

While Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, being in the Senate Chamber for 20 years from Aninri.
