Bomadi Diocese plays host to the 94th CYON NEC

The Catholic Diocese of Bomadi in Benin Province on Thursday 18th through Sunday 21st February, 2021 played host to the 94th National Executive Council Meeting of the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria(CYON).

The meeting which was attended by Presidents and Secretaries of CYON from Catholic Arch/Dioceses in Nigeria as well as Presidents of the Nine Catholic Provinces alongside their Chaplains and the National Elected Officers started on Thursday, with the arrival of delegates to Hannah’s Resort, Imiringi, the venue of the meeting. The host Bishop (of Bomadi Diocese), Most Rev. Hyacinth Oroko Egbebo (MSP) in his homily during the pontifical high Mass to mark the opening of the meeting charged Catholic Youths to live out their Faiths as Catholics, serve Christ in this youthful age with all their strength and to suffer with Christ this Lenten period in other to rise up with Him. Followed after was a group photograph.

Friday’s station of the Cross was led by Owerri Archdiocesan Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Henry Opara followed was the meeting of the Expanded National Executive (comprising the National Elected Officers, National Animator, National Chaplain, Provincial/Arch/Diocesan Chaplains as well as Provincial Presidents). The meeting which lasted for over five hours was succeeded by the National Executive Council Meeting proper which involved the Arch/Diocesan Presidents and Secretaries and lasted from 6:00pm till 12midnight, after which followed the closing Mass.
As is made obvious in the agenda of the meeting, the National Executive reaffirmed of their commitment to change the narrative for better by initiating ideas and plans that will facilitate the progress of the organization in Nigeria.

The delegates also promised through their respective inputs, suggestions and/or contributions, to key into the transformational plans and to aid in facilitation of the anticipated progress. To buttress this, such committees as National Media committee, Constitution Review, Economic Committee, Liturgy/Catechesis Committee amongst numerous others.
Highlights of the programme include the Holy Mass celebrated by the Host Bishop, lectures delivered on certain topics by professionals on those fields, closing Mass officiated by the Deputy National Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Gabriel Odunaiya from Lagos Archdiocese, assisted by the National Animator, Rev. Fr. Mark Obayi, Benin Provincial Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Stanislaus Odiegwu etc.
Delegates are expected to depart to their various Arch/Dioceses today.
