Court Remands Man Over Murder of Cousin In Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has arraigned a 51-year-old neighbourhood security operative, Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu, for the alleged murder of his 19-year-old cousin, Loveth Uloma Nwangwu, following his arrest earlier this month in Nsukka.

Police authorities say the suspect was taken into custody on 1 December after an incident in which he allegedly assaulted the teenager, resulting in injuries that later proved fatal.

The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to fast-track a full inquiry into the case.

Following the conclusion of investigations, Nwangwu was on Tuesday, 10 December, brought before the Enugu State Magistrate Court on a one-count charge of murder.

The court ordered his remand and directed that the case file be forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

Police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the development, stating that the Command has moved the matter into the judicial process and remains committed to ensuring accountability.

He added that the Commissioner of Police has extended condolences to the family of the deceased.
