Elite Investors Global Limited, has said it is partnering with the Anambra State government to build 15,000 low-cost housing units for ndi Anambra in the three senatorial zones of the state.
Speaking to newsmen in Awka Monday, Group Managing Director of the firm, Eze Ude said the company which was incorporated in 2007 decided to embark on the project, given the assurances made by Governor Charles Soludo during his campaign and inauguration.
“During the campaign of Prof. Soludo, part of his electoral promises was that he will build projects that will be of benefit to the people and run a people-oriented administration such that everybody will have an input in what government does. It is based on this fact that we decided to delve into building so we can make our input in this administration.”
Prince Ude said his company which is chaired by Chief Godwin Okafor is coming as private investors as there is no government that can achieve every goal without the private sector, adding that the Prof. Soludo-led administration promised to give an enabling environment for investors to thrive hence their decision to bring their investment home. This according to him is the confidence the company has in coming to invest.
“Our aim is to build 5000 low-cost housing each in the three senatorial zones of the state so the masses will have access to accommodation. If you come to places like Awka, you’ll discover that a common man cannot live in Awka because the houses are too expensive even civil servants cannot live in Awka because that can’t afford an accommodation based on the salaries they earn. So based on these facts, we will provide affordable accommodation for the masses.
“When the governor was sworn in, he first went to Okpoko because he knew most times, criminals reside in the ghetto but you cannot dislodge them without providing accommodation else there will be a surge in crime rate that’s why we want to embark on that low cost housing scheme so the masses can have access to that.”
According to him, the major idea behind the project is to dislodge the idea of ghetto as people resort to living in the ghetto when they cannot afford to pay rent. That is also the kind of environment criminals go to hide so for them to be dislodged, accommodation has to be provided first.
The group managing director also said if all things go well, the company projects that the buildings will be ready in two years from now.
On the mode of payment, he informed that it will be in a way as to not be a burden to subscribers. “So that when you pay the first required installment, you take possession of the accommodation and pay the remaining in 10 years. We’re also partnering with Federal Mortgage Bank to provide the loans for the project. We propose also that government will provide a 10 per cent subsidy for subscribers because for the government to run a public oriented administration, then they need to also come in and assist so people can be able to afford the housing.”
In the area of transportation, Prince Ude said his firm will revamp the Transport Company of Anambra State (TRACAS) if given the opportunity as aim of the state transport scheme seems defeated in Anambra, compared to other states.
“This is also important so that anywhere you are, you can have access to anywhere you are going. It is not just about building the houses such that it will be far from the cities but with the transportation scheme, we will be able to move people to the city and back.” He concluded.
