The Enugu State House of Assembly has urged the state government to constitute and inaugurate the Board of the Enugu State Road Maintenance and Development Agency, in line with the law establishing the agency in 2022.

The call was made in a motion sponsored by Mr. Clifford Obe, representing Igbo-Eze North State Constituency II.

Obe said the move would strengthen institutional capacity for effective and sustainable road maintenance across the state.

He noted that, despite the law’s passage, the governing board has neither been constituted nor inaugurated, hindering the agency’s operations and limiting oversight, decision-making, and resource mobilization.

Chief Iloabuchi Aniagu, the House Minority Leader, added that the board would ensure prompt road maintenance, reduce costs, and ease the workload of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.

Mr. Okey Mbah said the board’s activation would prevent frequent reconstruction of dilapidated roads, save government resources, and promote a sustainable road maintenance culture.

Speaker of the House, Chief Uche Ugwu, commended lawmakers for their efforts to improve road infrastructure in the state.

Meanwhile, the House also passed the 2026 Budget Estimate of ₦1.62 trillion for second reading.
