Enugu Bans Roadside Loading Around Major Bus Terminals

The Management of the Enugu East Senatorial District Bus Terminals has commenced full enforcement of a directive requiring all commuter vehicles to load and offload passengers strictly within designated terminals across the district.

The affected facilities include Holy Ghost Bus Terminals One and Two, the Garriki Bus Terminal along Agbani Road, and the Amurri Road Bus Terminal on Nike Road.

The directive applies to all categories of commuter vehicles, including tricycles, popularly known as keke, and minibuses operating along these routes.

Under the enforcement regime, operators are prohibited from loading or offloading passengers on adjoining roads, access points, or areas surrounding the terminals.

The management has warned that violators will be sanctioned in accordance with Enugu State traffic laws and regulations.

Officials say the measure is aimed at easing traffic congestion, improving commuter safety, and restoring order around major transport hubs in the state capital. The initiative also aligns with ongoing transport and urban renewal reforms being implemented by the Enugu State Government.

Observers link recent improvements in the transport sector to the policies of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, which has prioritised infrastructure development, traffic management, and the modernisation of public transport as part of efforts to reposition Enugu as an organised and investor-friendly state.

The terminal management has called on transport unions, drivers, and commuters to cooperate with enforcement officers to ensure smooth implementation of the directive for the benefit of all road users.
