Enugu Govt To Deregister Unapproved Estates, Bans Advertisements

The Enugu State Government has announced plans to deregister all unapproved and unregistered estate developments operating in the state.

The Managing Director of the Enugu State Geographic Information System Service (ENGIS), Chiwetalu Nwatu, disclosed this during a joint stakeholders’ meeting with the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) and the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP).

Mr Nwatu said the decision was part of efforts to sanitise the real estate and land administration sector, protect the public from land-related fraud, and enforce planning regulations.

He added that the government had also directed an immediate ban on the advertisement and promotion of unapproved estates, warning that developers and advertising platforms found violating the directive would be sanctioned.

According to him, unchecked promotion of unregistered estates has continued to mislead members of the public, exposing them to financial losses.

The ENGIS managing director said the engagement with stakeholders was aimed at addressing existing challenges, strengthening compliance, and supporting the development of a comprehensive master plan for the state.

He commended Governor Peter Mbah for pursuing institutional reforms in land administration, noting that collaboration between ENGIS, REDAN and NITP would improve transparency, professionalism and investor confidence in Enugu’s real estate sector.
