Federal Government Hint On Possible Increase In Fuel Price

Published

on

The federal government has said that it can no longer afford to subsidise the cost of buying petrol in the country.

Mele Kyari, the group managing director of NNPC, made this known on Thursday, March 25.

Kyari declared that Nigerians would sooner or later begin to buy petrol at N234 per litre.
He revealed that the Corporation pays N120 billion every month to subsidise Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol.

He made this known while speaking with journalists on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He lamented that the burden placed upon NNPC by the ongoing subsidisation of the cost of petrol in the country was overwhelming.

As a result of the huge sum being paid, Kyari stated that Nigerians would have to pay the actual cost for petrol sooner or later.

“The price could have been anywhere between N211 and N234 to the litre. The meaning of this is that consumers are not paying for the full value of the PMS that we are consuming and therefore someone is paying that cost,” he said.

“As we speak today, the difference is being carried in the books of NNPC and I can confirm to you that NNPC may no longer be in a position to carry that burden.”

PDP Asks DSS To Probe Pantami, Want Minister’s Sack

Published

on

The Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday called on the Department of State Service to immediately invite the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, for questioning over his alleged affiliations with the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.

The Party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja, also demanded that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), should immediately sack the minister, given the sensitivity of the issue at stake.

The party said its position was predicated on the heightening concerns in the public space and in the international arena of possible compromises by the communication minister.

It noted that Pantami had access to sensitive government documents and information, in addition to data of all individuals including high profile personalities in the public and private sectors as well as the traditional and faith-based circles.

The statement partly read:-

“The PDP is particularly worried about allegations in the public suggesting that the minister compromised the NIN registration exercise by giving room for the registration of aliens and invaders from other countries as our citizens.

“The party tasks the DSS to investigate the allegation which has created apprehension, particularly given the rise in banditry and other terrorist activities in our country.
“The PDP urges Nigerians to remain at alert and very sensitive to their environment, while not hesitating in providing useful information to our security agencies in the interest of our nation”
