INSECURITY: South West Governors endorse NEC decision on state control of forest management(Full Details)

South West Governors and traditional rulers in the zone have endorsed the decision of the National Economic Council (NEC) on forest management across the country which allows state government take control of its forest reserves to check criminal activities in the forest.

This was part of the resolutions reached at a special security meeting held in Ibadan with top security officers as part of measures to abate reoccurring security challenges in the region

Ondo state Governor Rotimi Akeredolu who spoke on behalf of the Governors hinted that the security meeting was at the instances of the Chief of staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari but could not make the journey due to bad weather, along with Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu and the Director General of the DSS Yusuf Bishi.

Governor Akeredolu also noted that the South West Governors had equally agreed that government at various levels should support cattle breeding but with a better modality of allowing grazing in designated areas rather than open grazing as well as tightening security at the various borders to check movement of foreign herders.

The Governors also decried the increase of fake news across the country while cautioning purveyors of fake news to desist from the trend of wrongfully inciting the public and embrace responsible journalism

The meeting had in attendance all South West Governors except Lagos state Governor Jide Sanwolu while the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; Akarigbo of Remo – Oba Babatunde Ajayi; Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom, Fedrick Akinrutan; Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Olugbon of Orilegbon, Oba Francis Alao as well as the Deputy Inpector General of Police, incharge of SouthWest, Mr David Folawuyo, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko and other heads of security agencies in Oyo state equally graced the meeting

Sanwo-Olu honours cop assaulted by traffic violator

Lagos state Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday honored a policemen Asp Sunday Erhabor attached to the Rapid response squad of the state police command.

The cop was assaulted by one victor Ebhomenyen who drove against traffic in Oniru in the Victoria Island area of the State.

 

Sunday was presented with a stats plague as a mark of honor and prestige to appreciate his commitment to promoting core values of modern policing and protection of fundamental human rights.

See what144 Nigerian policemen were sent to Somalia to do

A total of 144 police officers from Nigeria have arrived in Somalia to boost Stabilization efforts in the country according to the African union mission.

AMISON police operations coordinator  Daniel Ali Gwambal said they are there to to support the Somalis and at the same time to mentor the Somali police force.
