Malami Gives Update On Arresting Adeboye, Kumuyi, Others Over Twitter Ban

Published

on

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has spoken on speculations that Pastor Adeboye, Pastor Kumuyi and others might be arrested for flouting the Twitter ban in the country.

The clerics are still using the social media app, as they argue that their tweets are directed at a global audience.

Malami dismissed reports that his office will be prosecuting Nigerians who tweet despite the ban on Twitter operations in Nigeria.

In a chat with Vanguard, Malami said his office will not be prosecuting Nigerians residing in or out of the country who are making use of the microblogging site, but will go after any company or entity that offers to help Twitter bypass the suspension of its operations in the country.

Pastor Adeboye, and Pastor Kumuyi, tweeted from their handles a few days back and many Nigerians had asked if the Minister would be carrying out his threat to prosecute Twitter defaulters, on the respected clergymen.

“It is within their guaranteed fundamental right to tweet from anywhere in the world.

]Nigeria, being a democratic nation, cannot stop its citizens from exercising their rights of freedom of expression. But our position on Twitter is clear: Anyone, whether individual or corporate institution that enables Twitter to circumvent the ban the Federal Government of Nigeria placed on the company, will be prosecuted.

Our statement outlining our position on June 1, 2021, did not ask the Dpp to prosecute Nigerians using Twitter or any social media platform to express their view. But we are going to use the legal instruments at our disposal to go after those who aid and abet Twitter to continue to threaten our corporate existence as a nation.

It is clear from the barrage of insinuations and falsehood being orchestrated by some Nigerians and those trying to change the clear position of the Government of Nigeria to suit their whims and caprices and to whip up sentiments to hoodwink the people, that they are up to some mischievous and sinister games, which the Federal Government will not condone.

At no time did we threaten any religious leader for using Twitter to express themselves. Neither did we indicate in any way that we were going after them.

But mischief-makers were quick to mention names of religious leaders and give the impression that we were already in court to try them.

Let it be made clear that the Buhari administration, being a people-centred government that relies on the rule of law, will never adopt any policy or programme that seeks to add pain or injury to the very people who elected it to serve them.

For the record, let it be made amply clear that the AGF, Malami  is not after any Nigerian, tweeting from Nigeria or anywhere in the world but that any Nigerian company or entity that gives a helping hand for Twitter to escape the ban placed on it, will be dealt with,” Malami said

Boko Haram Gets New Commanders

Published

on

Nigeria’s Boko Haram jihadist group has confirmed the death of its chief Abubakar Shekau, who sources say died during infighting with a rival Islamic State-allied faction, according to a video message from its presumed new commander.

In the short video in Arabic, top Boko Haram commander Bakura Modu, also known as Sahaba, urged his faction’s commanders to remain loyal despite the loss of their historic commander.

Shekau’s death was seen a major shift in Nigeria’s conflict, though Islamic State in West Africa Province or ISWAP has recently emerged as the dominant force in the more than decade-long Islamist insurgency in the country’s northeast.

The video, provided to AFP by a source close to Boko Haram and confirmed to be Bakura Modu by another local source, illustrates that jihadist infighting is far from over in Africa’s most populous nation.

Shekau, who gained notoriety after kidnapping nearly 300 schoolgirls in 2014, killed himself last month rather than surrender after IS-allied rivals attacked his base camp in Nigeria’s northeast Borno state, security sources said.

Don’t Pay Tithe, Offering If You’re A Sinner — Pastor Kumuyi Warns

Published

on

Pastor Williams Folorunsho Kumuyi, founder of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has explained why he will return the tithes and offerings of some church members who are living in sin

The General Superintendent of the church said he would return the tithes and offerings of any of his member who is still living in sin.

He made this statement while addressing his members at the church’s headquarters in Lagos.

Kumuyi stressed that sinners who have refused to repent but support the church with their money, are wasting their resources.

While speaking on the importance of living a holy life, Kumuyi said God does not need a “sinner’s money” stating that it is pointless for a sinner to pay tithes and offerings in church.

He was quoted as saying, “If you are a sinner here, God does not need your money. All the money you are giving in this church does not get to God. You are just wasting your money.

“As a matter of fact if I know the numbers of sinners here and how much they gave as tithes and offering I will remove it and give it back to them. God does not need it and the church does not need it.”
