The National Youth Service Corps has announced that supplementary online registration for recently uploaded prospective corps members will take place from Thursday, April 9, 2026, to Saturday, April 11 2026

The exercise is intended for candidates whose details were recently uploaded to the NYSC portal and who have not yet completed the registration process.

Prospective corps members are advised to prepare all necessary documents and personal information in advance to ensure smooth registration.

In a post obtained from NYSC’s X account on Monday, the corps was quoted as saying, “Supplementary online registration for recently uploaded prospective corps members commences Thursday, 9th – Saturday, 11th April 2026.”

The NYSC emphasised that candidates must adhere strictly to the registration timeline to avoid disqualification. Registration will be conducted through the official NYSC portal, and applicants are encouraged to follow the step-by-step instructions provided to complete the process successfully.

This supplementary registration aims to ensure that all eligible candidates are able to participate in the upcoming NYSC orientation exercise without delays.

The registration process is strictly online, and adherence to deadlines is emphasized to prevent disqualification. Candidates must have all necessary documents and personal information ready to complete the process efficiently.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike,
has addressed the backlash over his controversial statement directed at
Channels TV’s news anchor Seun Okinbaloye.

Speaking on News Central on Monday, Wike explained that his
earlier remark was merely a figure of speech reflecting his frustration.

“It’s really unfortunate, you know, in Nigeria people blow
everything out of context particularly playing politics with everything,

“Anybody who knows my relationship with Seun will not begin
to rant,” Wike said.

“It’s a figure of speech that explains how angry I was. I’ve
spoken to him; we have no problem. He said he understands everything.”

The comment in question came after Okinbaloye, during an
interview with Wike, remarked that a one-party system could destroy democracy
in Nigeria.

Wike had said he would have “broken his TV screen and shot”
the journalist, a statement that drew widespread condemnation, including
criticism from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic
Congress (ADC).

US President Donald Trump says Iran could be “taken out” in one night as the deadline set for the country to open the Strait of Hormuz to
shipping traffic approaches.

On Saturday, Trump gave Iran 48 hours to comply or risk
facing “hell”.

He later threatened that the US would blow up Iran’s power
plants and bridges if Tehran failed to adhere to his warning.

The US president said Iran had until Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET (1
am WAT) to make a deal. In a press conference on Monday, Trump reiterated and intensified his threats.

“The entire country could be taken out in one night, and
that night might be tomorrow night,” he said.

“We have a plan, because of the power of our military, where
every bridge in Iran will be decimated by 12 o’clock tomorrow night, where
every power plant in Iran will be out of business – burning, exploding and
never to be used again, I mean complete demolition – by 12 o’clock.

“And it’ll happen over a period of four hours if we want it
to. We don’t want that to happen.”

Meanwhile, Iran has reportedly rejected a ceasefire proposal
and has insisted for a permanent end to the war.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has responded to the ongoing controversy surrounding influencer Blessing, stating
that no formal petition has been filed against her despite widespread outrage.

The controversy began in January when Blessing Okoro, known
as Blessing CEO, announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and
appealed to the public for financial assistance to cover the cost of her
surgery.

The announcement was met with significant skepticism, with
many accusing her of fabricating the illness to solicit money.

Last Thursday, Blessing explained that she had sought public
support early as a financial precaution, even before knowing the exact cost of
the procedure.

Facing continued criticism on Friday, the Internet
personality defended her refusal to publicly share her cancer test results,
citing medical privacy rules.

Blessing CEO, who had earlier come out on social media to
claim she has ‘stage 4’ cancer, later described the entire episode as a
“miscommunication”.

Blessing also revealed that she received N13 million in
public donations, not the widely circulated N100 million.

Her explanations have, however, been met with intensified
criticism on social media. Alafaa Kariboye-Igbo, the CEO of Karib Oil and Gas
Limited, countered her claim, arguing he transferred N20 million to Blessing.
He demanded a refund of the money.

Reacting to the matter on Monday, a source within the EFCC
said the commission has not received any formal petition against Blessing CEO.

The source emphasized that the agency does not act based on
social media agitation but requires a legitimate complainant to initiate an
investigation.

“Everybody is saying EFCC should arrest Blessing CEO. But
nobody has placed a petition before the EFCC CEO. As an anti-corruption agency,
we cannot work on social media agitation, social media frenzy, without a
credible petition that will authorise us to work on it,” the source said

The official further explained that a petitioner is
necessary to serve as a witness if the case goes to court.

“If we go by social media agitation and there is a need to
go to court, who is going to serve as a witness? Who are we going to say has
petitioned the commission?” the source asked.

“So we expect that people who are so passionate about arrest
and who are calling that, ‘oh, the EFCC should do this, the EFCC should do
that’, we expect them to come forward and bring a petition that will authorise
us, that will give us a legitimate ground to act on the matter.

“So as an agency, we are organised. Place facts before us,
and we act on them.”

The source advised that any aggrieved person should come
forward with evidence, including receipts of donations made to Blessing.

“Everybody knows that if somebody obtains anything by false
pretence, they are liable to EFCC investigation if it can be established. This
is the receipt of the money she collected. They should come forward with
receipts and evidence,” the source added.

Nigerian billionaire and Chairman of First Bank Holdings, Femi Otedola, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu was working on Easter

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a strong warning to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), cautioning that going ahead with its planned congress against a court order could cost the party dearly.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, speaking on Arise News, made it clear that defying the court could trigger serious consequences, including the nullification of election victories.

He warned that the party risks repeating the Zamfara political crisis, where candidates who won elections were later sacked by the courts for failing to follow due process.

“If they go ahead, what happened in Zamfara can happen again,” Amupitan cautioned.

He explained that even if ADC candidates win at the polls, the courts could overturn such victories, handing power to candidates who came second — a situation that has also played out in Plateau State.

“Disobeying court orders has consequences,” he stressed, noting that INEC is determined to avoid another legal and electoral crisis.

Despite the warning, ADC leadership, led by its National Chairman, David Mark, has insisted it will proceed with its planned congresses and national convention.

Traditional Ruler of Amawbia, Igwe Uchenna Okonkwo (Okpaligwe), has announced a total prize of ₦187,000 for farmers who produce the biggest yams in the community.

The announcement was made on Saturday during the grand finale of this year’s Ezi Okpaligwe ceremony held at Amawbia Town Hall.

Igwe Okonkwo said the festival marks the beginning of the farming season, adding that the initiative is aimed at encouraging productivity among farmers.

According to him, the farmer or village that produces the biggest yam will receive a cash prize of ₦100,000, while the second and third positions will get ₦50,000 and ₦25,000 respectively.

He also urged the people of Amawbia to seek blessings for a fruitful farming season, offering prayers with kolanut for a bountiful harvest.

In his remarks, the President-General of Amawbia Town Union, Nze Chukwuka Odumodu (Akalanze Amawbia), described the community as peaceful and united, with a strong vision for progress.

He noted that the strength of Amawbia lies in its unity, which continues to drive steady growth and development.

While highlighting the growing role of women in governance, Ifejilika stressed the need for equity and expanded opportunities for women to thrive. She also commended the Anambra State Government for entrusting women with key positions, describing it as a step in the right direction.

Adding his voice, the Chairman of the occasion and Chief Executive Officer of Seahorse Limited, Dr. Ebuka Onunkwo, said women have come of age and should be considered for top leadership positions and actively involved in decision-making processes.

In a keynote address that further deepened the conversation, Professor of Mass Communication, Stella Okunna, underscored the importance of women’s rights, describing them as fundamental human rights that must be upheld across all levels of society.
Prof. Okunna, who is also the first female professor of Mass Communication in sub-Saharan Africa, observed that gender equality remains a global challenge. She added that cultural and religious practices have, over time, worsened inequality between men and women, particularly in the South-East.

Turning to politics, she expressed concern over the low participation of women in governance, urging them to be more courageous in seeking elective positions.
“If women do not step forward to contest positions like the Senate, who then will speak for them?” she queried.
She further noted that while more women are needed in elective offices, those unable to contest should be considered for appointments to ensure broader inclusion.

Prof. Okunna advised women to support one another, especially as elections approach.

On her part, Vice Chancellor of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Professor Kate Omenugha recounted her husband supported her dreams of studying abroad adding that she owed her success first to God and to her husband. She went on a caution women against confronting their husbands. She advised women to employ negotiation mechanisms in resolving issues in the home.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to distinguished individuals and organisations who have made significant contributions in their respective fields.

Among the awardees were ace broadcaster, Dr. Ify Aronu; former Commissioner for Education and Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Prof. Kate Omenugha; Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Dr. Chioma Awuzie; and renowned actress, Mrs. Ngozi Ezeonu.

The Enugu State Police Command has commenced a three-day free veterinary outreach, offering anti-rabies and other essential vaccinations for animals, as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Enugu, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said the outreach, which runs from March 31 to April 2, is being conducted by the Nigeria Police Force Veterinary Services.

According to him, the exercise is taking place at the Police Veterinary Clinic, located at No. 3 Police Mobile Force (MOPOL 3) Squadron Base along Agbani Road, Enugu, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily.

He explained that services provided include anti-rabies vaccination, DHLPP vaccination covering distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvovirus and parainfluenza as well as free treatment for animals and farm consultation services.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Mamman Giwa, urged pet owners and livestock farmers to take advantage of the initiative to safeguard the health of their animals. He noted that the outreach underscores the command’s commitment to strengthening community relations and promoting public safety through preventive health measures.

Giwa also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu, for introducing innovations in the commemoration of National Police Day, describing them as impactful in deepening police-community engagement.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Government has confirmed an outbreak of rabies in dogs within Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, raising fresh public health concerns.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, Dr Patrick Ubru, disclosed this in a separate statement on Tuesday, urging residents to adopt immediate preventive measures to curb the spread of the disease.

He advised dog owners to vaccinate their pets promptly, restrict animal movement, avoid contact with stray animals and report suspected cases to relevant authorities.

The concurrent police outreach and government advisory highlight an urgent need for coordinated action to contain the outbreak and protect both animal and human health in the state.
