Police have arrested the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the road accident that claimed the lives of two associates of former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the arrest on Thursday.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the driver is currently in custody while investigations continue.

The accident occurred on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway when the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and members of his team collided with a stationary truck.

Two of Joshua’s close associates his personal trainer, Kevin Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami died in the crash.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said five adult males were involved in the accident, recording two fatalities, one injury, and two survivors. The agency attributed the crash to excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.

Anthony Joshua, who sustained injuries in the incident, was treated at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos, and was discharged late Wednesday night after doctors confirmed he was clinically fit to continue recovery at home.

Police say further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
