Russian Flags: Police arrest 31, producers, distributors

Published

on

The Nigeria Police Force said, on Monday, that it arrested 31 persons for what it described as “treason” for producing and distributing Russian flags and calling for anarchy.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, said 30 persons were arrested in Kaduna while one person, who was recruiting persons for distribution of the flags, was arrested in Kano.

Adejobi also said that as at today, Monday, the number of persons arrested “who are not protesters but criminal elements, rioters” in connection with the #Endbadgovernance protest, are 873, up from 861 at the weekend.

He spoke during the joint press briefing of spokespersons of security and response agencies at the headquarters of the Department of State Services, DSS.

‘They’re not protesters’

Adejobi said, “What we are having in the country right now are protests, demonstrations, and riots.

“Those arrested are rioters, armed robbers, looters and criminal elements. Arrest of criminal elements should not be described as arrest of protesters.

“Those arrested so far across the country are criminally-minded persons, looters engaged in criminal offences such as vandalization and destruction of public and critical infrastructure.

“So we should use the appropriate description for them — they are not protesters.

Speaking on allegations of using live bullets against the protesters as alleged at the MKO Abiola Stadium, ACP Adejoba said the Police and sister security agencies have operated in line with rules of engagement while managing the protest.

He said “Using tear gas against protesters when they resort to violence is allowed anywhere in the world.

“We have reiterated that we will not fold our hands to see violence again.

“In some states protesters have been so violent; up to the extent they attempted to break into government house and offices here.”

Continuing he said misuse of words is the greatest cause of errors.

“We need to use our words contextually this time around. I know we are aware that we are having protests in Nigeria.

“At the same time, we are aware we have riots in some states in Nigeria. So arrests of certain individuals who have been riotous should not be seen as the arrest of protesters. Let us get it clear.

“There are some states in Nigeria they have been having peaceful protests. Security agencies have been engaging them in some states.

“I’m sure, and I know you are aware, that some governors and public office holders have been engaging them. You can only engage a gathering, an assembly, that is friendly and accessible.

“Where you have individuals wielding stones, offensive weapons, dangerous weapons and all the likes; I don’t think a reasonable man will move close or be in the middle of such a gathering,” he noted.

MKO Abiola Stadium clash

On tear gas canisters fired at National Stadium: “The is the Federal Capital Territory, the heartbeat of our own great nation.

“Based on the court ruling the FCT Police CP asked them to use Mashood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. Not the Umaru Yar’adua Expressway which cater to traffic from the Airport Road, City Gate, City Centre etc

“So I think we need to get things right. The venue is Mashood Kashimawo Abiola Stadium in Abuja. So if you see any individual on this expressway, I think that person has deliberately and willfully violated the agreement or the court ruling.

“We need to be law-abiding in this country. We need to obey rule of law in this country. Our presence is not to harass anybody, not to intimidate anybody, but for us to protect our national assets.

“You see deployments including every deployment at the three arm zone of the country. Three arm zone harbours the heartbeat of this country; where we can say is the capital of Nigeria, where we have the judiciary, the legislative, and of course the Villa.

“Eagle Square is opposite and, of course, located at the same area. I’m sure you know it also harbours the Remembrance Arcade, where we always honour our fallen heroes.

“These are critical assets to us in Nigeria and we value them so much. We don’t want certain individuals to vandalize or cause any destruction.

“You agree with me that in some areas in Abuja we recorded riots and this protest was violent. I know you know kubwa, you know Maraba axis, where property were destroyed and some set ablaze.

‘We only arrested criminals’

“Anywhere we have these violent engagements, I don’t think we should refer to such an assembly or a gathering or a procession as peaceful anymore.

“I want to confirm again that those that have been arrested so far, to the best, best of my knowledge and with the records I have from all the states, are criminally minded individuals.

READ ALSO:  SOFIG condemns alleged assassination attempt on Ukachukwu in Abuja

“They went out and actually engaged in various criminal offences ranging from armed, robbery, homicide, mischief, or the one we call malicious damage, massive destruction of private and public facilities owners and in pains, as I speak with you.

“So I don’t want us to use the word protesters for those who are actually. To the best of our knowledge and based on our findings, they are rioters and of course, criminally minded individuals.

“Let us mind our words and let’s use appropriate words so that we do not heat up the polity and paint the government and security forces in a negative light.

“We have reiterated on several occasions that we will not fold our arms to see anarchy in the land again.

“We cannot afford to have the violence that we experienced during the last violent Endsars in 2020. Up till now, many are still in pain and we cannot allow such a thing to repeat itself.

… in Lagos

“In the southern part as witnessed in the east, in Lagos, in some parts of Rivers. I’m sure you know, police and other security agencies have not engaged protesters.

“However, in some states, Kebi Nasarawa, Kano Kaduna, Zamfara they have been so much violence and destruction. In fact, they went as far as some trying to take over the government houses in these states.

“I don’t think the police and other security agencies in these affected states have done anything wrong by engaging them. It is important at that time to engage them professionally. And this what we have done.

‘873 arrested; no #EndSARS protester in custory’

“We have arrested so far 873 suspects and these suspects are those who are directly connected to one criminal offence or the other. Where anyone alleges the Police have arrested protesters, please let us know the protester.

“I want to use this opportunity to set the record straight. One of the demands of protesters is that the federal government should release those who are being incarcerated in prisons for #endsars protests.

“We have seven names. Take-it-back movement alleged that they are protesters. Our statement from the police is that we don’t have any protesters in any of our facilities in Nigeria.

“Those incarcerated in correctional center facility are criminals who have been charged to court and they were charged to court for armed robbery, murder and other criminal offences.

READ ALSO:  Enugu VIO Appeals For Increased Manpower

“No single endsars protester is still being incarcerated or kept in any of our facilities in Nigeria.

Whoever wants to challenge this should come up, I have their names there. I’m going to share the names with you; offenses committed, for which were charged to courts and dates. I have them.

“I contacted my colleague from Correctional Service. We did our findings and we noticed that the names they rolled out are not protesters but those who went to attack us.

“I think one or two of them are those who went to the palace of the Oba of Lagos. Is oba’s palace part of the #Endears protest? Is it a police station? I don’t think the Oba’s palace in Lagos is part of police facility. So we need to set this record straight.

Russia flags

“Again, we have been able to arrest some individuals who were calling for some fashion at who engage themselves in what I call treasonable felony.

“To carry the flags of a foreign country on a sovereign land is a criminal offense. We have arrested them.

Just this morning, we have arrested one Ahmed Tailor from Kano, in Kano local government area, for producing a large quantity of Russian flags giving them to young Nigerians to go and fly for reasons best known to him.

“We are profiling him. We want to get other sponsors like him. As I speak with you, the same thing has happened in Kaduna.

“We’ve been able to arrest 30 of them with the same Russian flags and don’t want us to believe that for now, at this stage, we are still having a protest.

“The undertones of this protest, based on our intelligence before it commenced on 1 August 2024, have begun to manifest.

“Because I don’t think #endbadgovernance peaceful protest should generate to a level where a foreign country’s flag will be flown in Nigeria.

“And it’s spreading from one state to another and to another place. Are we still having a protest? That is a big question for all of you.

….Lilu, Orsuihiteukwa seek FG, States intervention

By Clems Iheme, and C Collins. who was at Orsuihiteukwa/Lilu

Two Anambra and Imo states communities bordering each other -Lilu (Ihiala LGA) and Orsuihiteukwa (Orsu) respectively have raised the alarm over recent more killings in their communities.

The outcry led by youths of these neighboring communities specifically fingered a previously booming location unfortunately baptized ‘Murder Valley’ by the gunmen as the main black spot and operational base of the murderous gangsters who have extinguished every form economic lives, decorum, and sanity but replaced it with the guns, and language of the jungle where might was power.

The location named Udeke by their ancestors according to history was renamed by these hoodlums as it has sadly became a spot where they do the absurd. They reportedly rape, rob, kill, maim and carry out human sacrifices for years now.

The Orsuihiteukwa Youths/the young-at-heart in the community led by Orsuihiteukwa Gadinma Ozo took select team of local/foreign based journalists, historians, anthropologists and documentarians to see things for themselves.

While addressing the visitors, the spokesperson for the community who gave his name simply as “Chukwuebuka”, noted that he’s presently keeping his full name under cover now for obvious security reasons said they were tired of running away from their homeland.

Chukwuebuka, like Lilu in Ihiala Council of Anambra State, lamented that “it was indeed doubtful if the Imo State governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma and the State Assembly still recognized Orsuihiteukwa and other neighbouring communities now daily soaked in blood as part of Imo State.”

He bemoaned the sad situation where the historical popular Eke Ututu market which hitherto drew patrons from all corners of the world become a wild forest in the last six years when insurgency started in the area.

Barrister Chukwuebuka told the visitors that majorly two villages of Orsu and Uda were the worst hit as almost the entire residents were driven out of their ancestral abode.

Moreso, all the major access roads, farmlands, bushparts, etc have been laced with deadly landmines. And needs military sweep as it has been decimating unsuspecting natives.

Toeing the same line of Lilu who intermarried, attends schools, churches in each other’s community asked the State government, ‘Is Orsuihiteukwa still part of Imo State? Where has our share of revenue allocation, appointments and other democracy dividends been going?

According to a resident who mustered enough courage to speak to the visiting team, the Federal and two States governments have failed us and our children.

Peace, calmness as Emeakayi launches statewide siege to reclaim Anambra’s from criminal hideouts

Published

on

By lFEANYI NDUKWE (SAINT), AWKA

In what appears to be one of the most assertive security declarations under the Soludo administration, Prince Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, has issued a bold directive to Agunechemba operatives to take over every criminal hideouts in Anambra and take the fight straight to the perpetrators.

The announcement followed a high-level briefing with the leadership of Agunechemba, a grassroots security outfit increasingly recognized for its growing influence in rural defence operations.

During the meeting, Emeakayi acknowledged the group’s early victories particularly the disruption of youth-driven kidnapping rings that had terrorized several communities.

He described the new operation as a strategic escalation, engineered to “silence the criminals” and dismantle all forest camps used by armed groups. The task, he stressed, is not merely reactive but intentionally offensive.

One of the most distinctive features of the current security drive is the boost in logistics and technology made possible by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

Emeakayi disclosed that Agunechemba now operates with advanced surveillance cameras, earth-moving machinery for dismantling hideouts, enhanced mobility support and coordinated reinforcement from police authorities.

These resources, he said, are clear evidence that the State Government is not treating community security as symbolic but as a priority instrument of public policy.

In a formal statement released from Awka and signed by Comrade Nweke Nweke, Media/Publicity Secretary of Agunechemba, Emeakayi expressed profound appreciation to Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.

He highlighted the CP’s “unwavering support” and the synergy that has helped displaced residents return safely to their communities after months of violent disruptions.

Emeakayi’s remarks grew notably stern as he addressed parents and guardians whose children may be involved in criminal networks.
He emphasized that the new operational strategy rolled out in this period of Yuletide is designed to flush out criminals with precision.

“We are no longer waiting for kidnappers to strike. We are advancing into their hideouts. If you know your child is hiding in the forest, bring him home. No responsible person chooses to live there,” he warned.

Emeakayi’s leadership style reflects a blend of stern enforcement and humanitarian awareness, spotlighting his reputation for discipline, data-driven coordination, and grassroots consultation.

Bishops didn’t make me governor, Anambra people did! — Prof. Soludo claims

Published

…..vows to cleanse Anambra of fake prophets after re-election

By Dr. Chika Ejimnkeonye, Awka

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has once again proven he is not one to shy away from controversy or confrontation. In what many have described as his boldest political statement yet, the Anambra State Governor reportedly told his campaign strategists that no religious institution or cleric made him governor and that it was the will of the people, backed by former President Muhammadu Buhari’s democratic structure, that brought him to power.

At a closed-door campaign appraisal meeting held in Awka last weekend, Soludo was said to have spoken with unshaken confidence about his chances in the November 8, 2025 governorship election.

The Governor, renowned for his frankness and intellectual courage, told his inner circle that he would win again without the Church’s endorsement, insisting that his achievements across the state were enough to guarantee him victory.

“In 2021, most of these Bishops and priests supported Val Ozigbo. Yet, I won clearly. I don’t need any Church endorsement to win. Ndi Anambra will re-elect me because they’ve seen what I’ve done,” Soludo reportedly boasted.

The Governor, a former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) boss and globally respected economist, has built a reputation for being fearless and pragmatic; traits that continue to shape his leadership style.

Prof.Soludo in the same breath, reportedly expressed discontent with certain religious figures whom he accused of “turning the church into a business enterprise.”

He likened some priests and pastors to self-acclaimed miracle workers such as Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki, Onyeze Jesus, and others who were previously arrested for misleading the public with claims of miracle money and ritual practices.

According to sources at the meeting, Soludo vowed that after securing re-election, he would launch a statewide moral and spiritual sanitization campaign that would tackle both fake herbalists and fraudulent “men of God” who exploit the desperation of the people.

“After dealing with the fake Okeite Dibias, I will also face the fake pastors and prophets who use church platforms and false miracles to extort Ndi Anambra. Our state needs cleansing,” the Governor was quoted as saying.

The Governor’s comments come amid rising tensions between the state government and sections of the Catholic clergy. Some priests, including the controversial Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obinma, popularly known as Ebube Muonso, have in the past criticized Soludo’s policies and endorsed opposition candidates during election periods.

However, Soludo’s latest statement has ignited fresh debates on the proper boundary between religion and governance in Anambra. Many political observers argue that the governor’s bold stance reflects a new era of political independence; one that seeks to separate spiritual influence from state affairs.

Not everyone within the governor’s inner circle, however, shares his sentiment. A senior APGA stakeholder and close associate of the governor who pleaded anonymity described the comments as “unfortunate and unsettling,” especially given the Catholic Church’s historical role in mobilizing support for Soludo’s 2021 victory.

“As a Knight of the Catholic Church, I felt deeply disappointed. The church hierarchy should be respected, not attacked. The governor might have good intentions, but his choice of words could hurt relationships that matter,” the source said.

The source called on the Church to remain united and prayerful in its decision-making as the election season draws closer.

Despite the backlash, Governor Soludo’s confidence remains unshaken. Although, his administration has recorded notable strides in infrastructural renewal, rural development, education, and security reforms. From the reconstruction of long-abandoned roads to the revitalization of schools and the fight against insecurity, the governor believes that his “performance scoreboard” is the best campaign manifesto.

He has urged his campaign team to “focus on the grassroots,” asserting that the real power lies in the hands of the people not the pulpits.

“Let’s campaign with our works. Ndi Anambra knows the difference between performance and propaganda. Bishops and GOs have one vote each, just like every citizen,” he claimed.

Analysts say Soludo’s latest outburst may be part of a calculated strategy to project independence and conviction, painting him as a governor who answers only to the people. Whether this political gamble strengthens his re-election bid or stirs a backlash from the powerful Christian establishment remains to be seen.

But one thing is certain: Prof. Soludo’s voice has once again set the tone for a heated political and moral debate in Anambra State. His words, bold and unfiltered, continue to reinforce his image as a reform-minded leader determined to rebuild the state from the ruins of superstition, corruption, and hypocrisy.

The market they said had been witnessing epileptic power supply for a long period due to the collapse of their former transformer, which was worn out, and could no longer serve the market.

While commissioning the transformer on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at the market premises, Special Adviser to Governor Charles Soludo on Trade and Market, Chief Everistus Uba, commended the traders in the market for the feat they achieved, and said that it would benefit traders in the market and their customers.

He words, “This transformer will help ensure constant electricity supply within the market and its environs, and will help traders recharge their appliances and also preserve certain drugs that need to be constantly refrigerated.

“I want to thank Mr. Chukwuleta Ndubuisi and his market for providing this transformer on behalf of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC). I am saying so because, it is the EEDC that supposed to provide this transformer, but it is now the other way round; but it is for the benefit of the market.”

In his speech, Caretaker Chairman of the market, Mr. Chukwuleta Ndubisi, said that the market procured the transformer because, it needs constant and quality electricity supply due to the nature of their business.

He said, “Our former transformer, which was 300KVA was procured a long time ago. It has been overused, and developed faults every now and then, so that it can no longer serve the market. Through the consent and support of traders in this market, we’re able to procure another one.”

The chairman said that when he came in, the market was faced with problem of electricity, and his executive mobilized fund, purchased wires and cables and rewired the entire market, and also fixed the former transformer to ensure regular power supply, before it finally broke down.

“When I came in, there was this challenge of water supply in the market. But we quickly dug borehole, installed overhead tanks and reticulated water in all areas of the market.

“Before our administration assumed office, security personnel in the market had no befitting office, but we got a place, built their office and equiped it. We also put water system toilet facility there to ensure their comfort.

“Sometime ago, leadership of this market organized a weeklong medical outreach. During the exercise, we engaged the services of 6 lab scientists, 9 nurses, and six medical doctors. We offered lab tests, gave out drugs and treat patients. Over 600 traders benefited from the medical mission free of charge. Previous leadership did not achieved this feat. It was the success of the medical mission that attracted a health post to this market.”

He also said that his executive always mobilize over 200 bags of rice every Christmas season, which he said, are shared among office workers, former chairmen, and elderly people in the market.

On his assessment of Governor Soludo’s achievements, Mr Ndubisi strongly hailed Soludo’s leadership, and assured that traders in the market are ready to support his second term aspiration.

According to him, “The Ogbogu Market is strongly supporting Mr. Governor because of his giant strides in the development of Anambra State.”

He enumerated Niger Street, Silas Works, PH Road, and Zik’s Avenue as some roads within the market area, which he said was not motorable before the governor intervened and fixed them.

He criticized those challenging Soludo’s re-election, describing them as money mongers, who want to grab power for the sake of the money, and finally assured that traders in Ogbogu Market would do everything within their power to ensure victory for Soludo in their different wards and polling units.

Our collective prayer is that the blood they shed for the survival of the Igbo nation and its people shall not be in vain, today, we can boldly say that we stand for one united Nigeria. Ndigbo have sacrificed so much for the development and survival of this project called Nigeria. We also ask that we be integrated and treated as part of the Nigerian nation. We do not request for preferential treatment. We asked that Ndigbo be given its rightful place in the country.”

The governor while commending Ohanaeze Ndigbo for designating September 29 as a day to honour those who lost their lives in the pursuit of nationhood described the remembrance as “a solemn and necessary step towards healing and reflection.”
The governor also warned against agitation for conflict, saying those who witnessed war would never wish it upon the people again.
“For those craving for war, it is because they never saw one and do not know what it looks like. Those who truly saw war will never pray for such to befall Igbo land, Nigeria, or any nation,” he noted.

He called on Ohanaeze to take a stronger stance against insecurity in the south-east while leading a moral rebirth anchored on Igbo values such as integrity, hard work and enterprise, “We need the cleansing of Igbo land to revive and promote our value system. Ohanaeze must rise up and lead this moral transformation,” he added.
