Security operatives in Enugu State have neutralized a suspected kidnapper, rescued a kidnapped man, and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a joint operation in Udenu Local Government Area.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, said the operation involved the Enugu State Police Command, Nigerian Army, Forest Guards, Neighbourhood Watch, and local vigilantes.

The action followed reports that a male victim was abducted in Ezimo-Uno community yesterday.

According to Ndukwe, the security team tracked the suspects to Agu-Shere and Okpakereke forest areas, where they came under fire.

“Operatives returned fire, neutralising one suspect, while others fled into the forest bordering Benue State with gunshot injuries,” he said.

The victim was rescued unharmed.

Recovered items include an AK-47 rifle with 20 rounds of live ammunition, an extra magazine, two daggers, military camouflage uniforms, mobile phones, assorted food items, cooking utensils, and a freshly slaughtered chicken.

“A manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.

The PRO quoted the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State, Bitrus Giwa, as assuring residents of the police’s commitment to fighting violent crime.

He urged members of the public, particularly health and medical providers, to report anyone with gunshot injuries and encouraged timely sharing of credible information with security agencies.
