Fashion tycoon Bernard Arnault becomes first French world’s richest person

French fashion tycoon, Bernard Arnault, has become the world’s richest person, following a rise in the stock of his fashion company, Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy.

Arnault became the world’s richest person on Monday morning with an estimated net worth of $186.3bn, with Jeff Bezos following closely at $186bn and Elon Musk with $147.3bn, according to Forbes.

The top of Forbes’ billionaires’ list has been largely dominated by Americans over the years.

U.S citizens like Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Bezos and Musk had claimed the number one spot for over twenty years, with only Mexico’s Carlos Slim disrupting their dominance for a short period.

Arnault became part of the top 10 richest men in 2005 when his net worth was $13bn.

In 2018, he climbed to the top five, and by 2019, he became the third-richest person with a $76bn fortune.

In 2019, he briefly became the world’s richest person at around 10:30 a.m. EST on December 16, when he edged past Bezos.

As Amazon’s stock closed higher, the French tycoon was knocked back to number two.

Arnault’s fortune experienced a massive rise of over $110bn in the past 14 months, moving from $76bn in March 2020 to $186.3bn on Monday.

The massive rise was attributed to the performance of his luxury group, LVMH, during the pandemic.

Boko Haram Gets New Commanders

Nigeria’s Boko Haram jihadist group has confirmed the death of its chief Abubakar Shekau, who sources say died during infighting with a rival Islamic State-allied faction, according to a video message from its presumed new commander.

In the short video in Arabic, top Boko Haram commander Bakura Modu, also known as Sahaba, urged his faction’s commanders to remain loyal despite the loss of their historic commander.

Shekau’s death was seen a major shift in Nigeria’s conflict, though Islamic State in West Africa Province or ISWAP has recently emerged as the dominant force in the more than decade-long Islamist insurgency in the country’s northeast.

The video, provided to AFP by a source close to Boko Haram and confirmed to be Bakura Modu by another local source, illustrates that jihadist infighting is far from over in Africa’s most populous nation.

Shekau, who gained notoriety after kidnapping nearly 300 schoolgirls in 2014, killed himself last month rather than surrender after IS-allied rivals attacked his base camp in Nigeria’s northeast Borno state, security sources said.

Mikel Obi was assured of Federal Government support whenever he chooses to invest in the country.

Don’t Pay Tithe, Offering If You’re A Sinner — Pastor Kumuyi Warns

Pastor Williams Folorunsho Kumuyi, founder of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has explained why he will return the tithes and offerings of some church members who are living in sin

The General Superintendent of the church said he would return the tithes and offerings of any of his member who is still living in sin.

He made this statement while addressing his members at the church’s headquarters in Lagos.

Kumuyi stressed that sinners who have refused to repent but support the church with their money, are wasting their resources.

While speaking on the importance of living a holy life, Kumuyi said God does not need a “sinner’s money” stating that it is pointless for a sinner to pay tithes and offerings in church.

He was quoted as saying, “If you are a sinner here, God does not need your money. All the money you are giving in this church does not get to God. You are just wasting your money.

“As a matter of fact if I know the numbers of sinners here and how much they gave as tithes and offering I will remove it and give it back to them. God does not need it and the church does not need it.”
