Udenu LG Inaugurates Ember Months Decongestion Committee

Udenu Local Government Council has inaugurated an Ember Months Decongestion Committee as part of measures to ease traffic flow and enhance public safety during the busy festive season.

The inauguration was carried out by the Secretary to the Local Government, who represented the Council Chairman at the event.

The committee is made up of key stakeholders, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the National Union of Road Transport Workers, market associations, town unions, tricycle operators, and mass transit providers.

The broad-based membership is aimed at ensuring effective coordination and compliance.

Set up in collaboration with the Enugu State Ministry of Transport, the committee is mandated to prevent traffic congestion and ensure free movement of vehicles along major roads within the local government area.

The Federal Road Safety Corps will serve as the lead agency, overseeing coordination and enforcement of traffic regulations.

Speaking at the event, the Secretary to the Local Government noted that the yuletide period is often marked by increased travel and commercial activities, making proactive planning necessary to safeguard lives and property.

Residents, motorists, traders, and transport operators have been urged to cooperate with the committee, which is expected to commence operations immediately, to ensure a smooth, safe, and orderly festive season across Udenu Local Government Area.
