APC Chair Nwoye Explains Backing Mbah as Nkanu West Executives Are Inaugurated

The Enugu State All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Committee, Wednesday, concluded its statewide tour with the inauguration of local government and ward executives in Nkanu West, where its Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, defended his decision to support Governor Peter Mbah during the 2023 elections despite being a member of the opposition party.

Addressing party stakeholders in Agbani, headquarters of Nkanu West LGA, Nwoye said he backed Mbah because he was convinced the governor represented “a different quality of leadership” at a time when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was “already weighed down by internal conflict.”

He said his attendance at Mbah’s campaign rally in full APC attire underscored his belief that the state was primed for a shift in its political direction.

Nwoye, who led a delegation including Committee Secretary Rt. Hon. Eugene Odo, Ambassador Fidelia Njeze, Comrade Peter Chime, Dr. Oby Ajih, Dr. Chiedozie Nwafor and Engr. Emma Ekeh, said the governor’s performance had since vindicated his position, citing restored stability and clearer development priorities in the state.

The Chairman of Nkanu West LGA, Hon. John Ogbodo, praised the governor’s “bold” infrastructure drive and described the proposed 2026 budget as unprecedented in scale.

He affirmed that political leaders and stakeholders in the LGA were united behind Mbah’s alignment with the APC, insisting that “Nkanu West will reward the governor in 2027.”

Also speaking, immediate past PDP State Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, said the political realignment from PDP to APC across state structures was driven by governance realities rather than sentiment.

He argued that aligning with the centre would enable Enugu to unlock greater development opportunities.

Other speakers, including the Member representing Nkanu West in the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Iloabuchi Aniagu, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Mainstream Media, Dan Nwomeh, and Chairman of the State Science, Technical and Vocational Schools Board, Dr. Amaka Ngene, echoed support for the governor’s agenda and the party’s restructuring efforts.

The event culminated in the inauguration of the new local government and ward executives by the State Secretary, Barr. Eugene Odo, who also presented the APC flag and brooms to the newly inaugurated Nkanu West Chairman, Hon. Sunday Onovo, and his executive members.
