Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has praised President Bola Tinubu for making tough economic and governance decisions on the third anniversary of his administration, saying the President prioritised long-term national stability over short-term political gains.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, Abbas congratulated Tinubu and highlighted the bold reforms implemented under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“President Tinubu inherited a country on life support, a country on crutches, bedevilled by subsidy distortions, exchange rate instability, declining revenues, weakened investor confidence, oil theft, worsening insecurity, and an economy weighed down by years of postponed decisions,” the Speaker said.

Abbas noted that instead of continuing with politically convenient but unsustainable measures, Tinubu opted for genuine reforms and reconstruction.

“The politically convenient option would have been to continue postponing reality. But President Tinubu chose reform. He chose reconstruction. He chose long-term national stability over temporary political comfort. And today, Nigerians can see the results of those bold decisions across the country,” he added.

The Speaker pointed to several positive outcomes, including:GDP growth rising from 2.74% in 2023 to 3.87% in 2025, with projections for further improvement in 2026.

External reserves strengthening significantly, from about $4 billion in 2023 to over $34 billion in net reserves (and gross reserves exceeding $50 billion) by the end of 2025.

Increased Federation Account allocations, surpassing ₦22 trillion cumulatively by 2025, with some months exceeding ₦2 trillion for the first time.

Foreign investment inflows jumping from $654.65 million in Q3 2023 to $5.64 billion in Q1 2025.

Improved crude oil production, from an average of 1.44 million barrels per day in 2023 to between 1.75 and 1.84 million barrels per day.

Higher defence and security allocations, rising to over ₦4.91 trillion in the 2026 budget.

Education initiatives, such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund benefiting over 1.3 million students with more than ₦242 billion disbursed.

Abbas also highlighted major infrastructure projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway, and rail modernisation efforts as key to unlocking economic potential.

While acknowledging that challenges remain, the Speaker defended the administration’s direction and called for continuity.

“It is strategically expedient for Nigerians to renew President Tinubu’s mandate in 2027 to enable the completion of the policies, programmes and projects of his administration,” he said.

Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, and quickly introduced major reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and unification of the foreign exchange market.

Supporters argue these steps are laying a stronger foundation for the economy, despite short-term hardships such as rising inflation and cost of living pressures.

Abbas reaffirmed the 10th House of Representatives’ commitment to supporting legislative efforts that promote national development and the welfare of Nigerians.

The President made the appeal on Thursday, May 28, 2026, during a high-level meeting with security chiefs and traditional rulers at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting focused on the persistent challenges of terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry in various parts of Nigeria.

Tinubu emphasised that while the government remains fully committed to decisive action, spiritual intervention and public support are equally vital in the fight against insecurity.

“Nigeria should pray that terrorists and bandits will have a rethink and abandon their evil ways. We are determined to secure this country, protect lives and ensure that every Nigerian can live without fear,” the President said.

He reiterated his administration’s resolve to sustain military operations, strengthen intelligence gathering, and enhance coordination among security agencies.

The President also assured Nigerians of continued investment in modern security equipment and strategies aimed at ending insurgency and banditry.

Tinubu urged citizens to actively support security operatives by providing timely and credible intelligence, warning that criminals thrive when communities remain silent or indifferent.

The appeal comes amid ongoing security concerns in parts of the North-West, North-East, and other regions where banditry and kidnapping have continued to disrupt lives and economic activities, despite reported gains by the military in recent operations.

This marks the latest in a series of engagements by the Tinubu administration on the third anniversary of his presidency, as the government seeks both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to restoring peace and stability nationwide.

Rachael Alamu, the abducted principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire LGA, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, to negotiate with the kidnappers.

Alamu and some staff members and students of the school were abducted on
May 15 when gunmen raided three schools in the Ahoro-Esiele/Yawota axis of Oriire in Ogbomoso.

The gunmen, who rode on motorcycles, abducted dozens of students and teachers from Community High School, L.A. Primary School, Esiele,
and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School.

The assailants killed Adesiyan, an assistant headmaster at the community high school, and a commercial motorcyclist during the attack.

Makinde said that seven teachers were abducted during the raid, while Michael Oyedokun, one of the teachers, was later killed in captivity.

A video which surfaced the following Monday allegedly showed how the bandits beheaded Oyedokun after tying him to a tree.

The disturbing footage sparked outrage on social media and raised fresh concerns over the safety of the remaining victims still in captivity.

As of the time of filing this report, it could not be immediately ascertained whether the kidnappers had communicated fresh demands
to the government.

‘DON’T LET THEM WASTE OUR LIVES’

However, in two separate videos posted via Instagram on Friday, Alamu appealed to the federal and state governments not to use force for their rescue.

She said the kidnappers had threatened to kill another victim if the government continued attempts to rescue them by force.

“Please, I am here again to beg the government, President Bola Tinubu and Governor Seyi Makinde, to help us and dialogue with these
people. They should not use force,” she said.

“The force they used yesterday has caused us so much pain. It has added to our problem.

“In fact, one of us has been picked, and they said they will kill him because the government tried to help us by force. We want you to call them and dialogue with them so that our lives will be saved.”

In the second clip, Alamu called for
peaceful negotiations, warning that their captors were becoming increasingly
frustrated and impatient over the government’s moves.

“Today is the 27th of May, 2026. It has been about 13 days since we were picked from work. And till now, we are still in the bush,” she
said.

“We are begging you, President Tinubu, Governor Seyi, and all other well-meaning Nigerians to please help us. I am calling on ANCOPSS and
NUT to help us talk to them.

“You don’t need force. All you have to do is negotiate with them and release us. We are in the cold, under the sun and rain.

“The children and all of us are here. Please, we are begging you. Don’t let them waste our lives. They are getting impatient and frustrated.”

The World Health Organization on Friday announced the first recovery of a confirmed Ebola patient in the outbreak raging in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“The DRC has said that on May 27, a patient recovered and left the hospital and has been discharged into the community,” the WHO’s Anais Legand told reporters, adding it was “the first one”.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State has been thrown into confusion after parallel governorship primaries produced two rival candidates for the 2027 election.

Within 24 hours, Hon. Jimi Lawal and Dr. Biodun Collins Ogundipe were separately declared winners of the party’s gubernatorial primary, sparking a major crisis in the Ogun ADC.

The party had three aspirants in the race: Jimi Lawal, Biodun Collins Ogundipe, and US-based medical doctor, Dr. Marie Bolaji Odusina. Voting took place across the 236 wards of the state over the weekend.

At the party secretariat, the National Organizing Secretary of the ADC and Secretary of the Ogun State Primary Election Committee, Barrister Adebimpe Adelowo, announced that Jimi Lawal won with 19,428 votes, Ogundipe scored 5,775 votes, and Odusina got 4,825 votes.

“Hon Jimi Lawal, having scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the Ogun State gubernatorial primary election,” Adelowo stated.

However, in a separate announcement at Basic Trust International, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, Chairman of another Electoral Committee, Mr. Adeniyi Adams, declared Biodun Collins Ogundipe (popularly known as BCO) as the winner.

According to that result, Ogundipe polled 9,370 votes, Jimi Lawal got 6,812 votes, while Marie Odusina scored 2,349 votes.

Ogundipe’s camp reacts Ogundipe, after his declaration, called for unity among party members. “We are one family in ADC. This is the time for unity, reconciliation, and collective commitment to victory,” he said.

The Ogun State ADC Publicity Secretary, Olumide Onabajo, insisted that Ogundipe remained the authentic candidate, describing the announcement that produced Lawal as “false, null, void and misleading.”Dr. Odusina rejects results

One of the aspirants, Dr. Marie Odusina, has petitioned the national leadership of the ADC, alleging serious irregularities in the conduct of the primaries.

She demanded a fresh election, citing multiple voting locations in the same wards, lack of proper communication, and staggered voting times.

The Ogun State ADC Chairman, Femi Soluade, said he was not directly involved in the primary process and would respond after due consultation.

The developing crisis comes as the ADC grapples with internal leadership issues and factional tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Cubana Chief Priest, the socialite, has revealed why he moved beyond online activism to active participation in politics.

In an interview on The Beat FM, the celebrity barman explained that years of making posts and videos only to see no tangible results pushed him to seek a seat at the decision-making table.

“What we have to do at this moment is to go beyond what we used to do,” he said.

“What was done over the years was make a post, make a video, people are going to like and comment… but after that, what happens? Nothing
happens.”

Cubana noted that his resources, experience, and influence could be put to better use in governance rather than in ranting online.

“I felt I could go beyond social media posting. I have the energy to participate, I have the energy, money and experience to participate,”
he said.

“As someone who has been able to build himself to this standard, as someone who has been able to help brands to better, I felt I could help make a difference at the table where decisions are being made instead of waiting for those decisions to be made and I go ranting on social media.”

Despite failing to clinch the APC ticket for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru east federal constituency at the house of representatives, Cubana dismissed claims that his loyalty to the party has been shaken.

“My support for the party is undiluted, and my support for.the president is something that is unshakable,” he said.

“I had to take a proper look at the achievements of APC in my own state. I come from Imo state. I see the contribution of what the president has done.

“A lot of governors now are able to do a lot of things in their states without borrowing money. They have opportunities to get this money
that’s being gotten back from subsidy to help them build.”

Earlier in the month, Cubana disclosed that he voluntarily withdrew from the primary race after consultations with party leaders over zoning arrangements that did not favour his local government area.

However, during a Twitch live session with streamer Peller, he claimed President Bola Tinubu does not fully trust him because he once worked for Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the
