Women Police At 70: Enugu Officers Celebrate With Community Service

Women Police Officers of the Enugu State Command have commemorated their 70th Anniversary with a series of community-focused activities aimed at promoting public safety and strengthening engagement with residents.

The activities began with a traffic control exercise at key locations in Enugu, including Chris Chemist Roundabout, Holy Ghost/Ogbete, and the Old Park axis.

As part of efforts to sensitise young people, the officers visited a private College, Enugu, where they held an enlightenment session on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), emphasising prevention, early reporting and community responsibility in protecting vulnerable persons.

The officers also visited retired Commissioner of Police, Virginia Okolo, presenting her with gifts and receiving guidance from the former senior officer, regarded as a trailblazer in women policing.

The programme concluded with a sanitation exercise and a road walk through major streets in Enugu metropolis to reinforce the importance of public hygiene and civic responsibility.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mamman Bitrus Giwa, congratulated the women officers and encouraged them to remain professional and committed in their duties.
