Enugu: Gov. Mbah Tasks MDAs On ₦870bn IGR Target

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has directed Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the state government to intensify efforts toward achieving the ₦870 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) target set in the 2026 budget, citing uncertainties surrounding external revenue sources amid prevailing global geopolitical tensions.

Governor Mbah gave the directive on Monday during a Holy Mass held at the Government House Chapel to mark the formal resumption of work in state government offices for the new year.

He warned that volatility in global affairs could negatively impact inflows from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), stressing the need for the state to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation to cushion possible shocks.

The governor recently signed the ₦1.62 trillion 2026 budget, projected to be funded through ₦870 billion in IGR, ₦387 billion from FAAC, and ₦329 billion in capital receipts.

Addressing political appointees and civil servants, Mbah said achieving the revenue target would largely depend on the efficiency and quality of services rendered by MDAs to businesses and residents of the state.

“In view of the geopolitical tensions across the globe, we cannot afford uncertainty in our revenue projections. It is critical that we realise our domestic revenue targets so we are better positioned to absorb any external shocks,” he said.

He urged civil servants to demonstrate greater commitment, punctuality and teamwork, describing them as central to the success or failure of the administration’s policies and programmes in 2026.

According to him, “Our workers and permanent secretaries remain the engine room of this administration. The little things timely resumption of work, prompt processing of documents, and effective collaboration matter significantly in achieving our collective goals.”

The governor also called for continuous feedback from citizens and stakeholders, noting that accountability and constructive criticism were essential to effective governance.

“We do not claim perfection, but we are committed to optimal service delivery. Honest feedback and holding us accountable are crucial to that commitment,” he added.

In his homily, the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Rev. Fr. Anthony Udeh, described Mbah as a servant leader, citing ongoing and completed projects across the state as evidence of the administration’s reform agenda and development drive.

The service was attended by senior government officials, including Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai; Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Uchenna Ugwu; Chief Judge of the state, Justice Afojulu Ozoemena; and Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, among others.
