Igbo-Eze South LGA At Peace With Choice Of Ugo-Fedinand Ukwueze/Princess Chinwendu

Ugo-Fedinand Ukwueze & Princess Chinwendu

By Ikechukwu Ezema

Enugu—Concerned Indigenes of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area made up youths, women and elders from the LGA with strong character and rational mindset, have commended the choice of Barr. Ugochukwu Fedinand Ukwueze of Umulolo Ovoko Ward in Ekete Development Center of Igbo-Eze South East Zone of the LGA, as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party in the forthcoming local government election.

In the same vein, the concerned indigenes of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area also commended the choice of Dame Princess Chinwendu Omeje Ogbonna who hails from Ibagwa Aka in Igbo-Eze South West Central Development Center of Igbo-Eze South West Zone by birth but married to Uhunowere in Igbo-Eze South East Central Development Center in Igbo-Eze South East Zone of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area.

In a statement respectively signed by the Chairman; Hon. Ifeanyi Ogbu, Secretary; Mr. Sam Ejiofor Ugwoke and Madam Ezeja Chizoba (Commander) Women Coordinator of Concerned Indigenes of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, they described the Choice of Barr. Prince Ugochukwu Fedinand Ukwueze and Dame Princess Lolo Chinwendu Omeje Ogbonna as an August Gift to the good people of Igbo-Eze South Local Government.

The concerned indigenes of Igbo-Eze South Local Government immensely expressed their heart felt appreciation to the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party across the state and the Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Peter Mbah, for placing Equity and Justice on the table in addressing the equation of the political structure of the council area.

While noting that an injury to one is an injury to all, they said that justice truly demands that Igbo-Eze South East Zone be given the Chairmanship position of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area considering the fact that Igbo-Eze South West is highly saturated with heavy political positions like the Senate seat, State House of Assembly seat, State Commissioner seat, Member ESUT Governing Council, Patron 2, Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, Chairman Igbo-Eze South Traditional Rulers Council, Vice Chairman Igbo-Eze South Traditional Rulers Council and
Secretary Igbo-Eze South Traditional Rulers Council.

The concerned indigenes of Igbo-Eze South who maintained that their core objective as a group was to advocate Equity, Justice and Fairness in the affairs of the Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, emphatically
said that the ceding of the Chairmanship candidate of the PDP was a testament of appreciating the importance of equity, justice and fairness in the affairs of man.

They recalled that the immediate past Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, equally balanced the same equation of the political structure of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area with the ceding of the Chairmanship/Vice Chairmanship ticket of the PDP to Igbo-Eze South West Zone under Peter Andy Omeje/Ejike Amedu, when Igbo-Eze South East Zone was saturated with heavy political positions like the Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency Seat, Enugu State House of Assembly Seat, Permanent Secretary Seat among other political appointments too numerous to list here for the sake of time.

While maintaining that history had just repeated itself in this political dispensation, the concerned indigenes of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area cautioned those fanning the embers of division in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area to desist from such and toe the part of peace, justice, equity and fairness to enhance the progress and growth of the council area.

They also urged the good people of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area to liken the Candidature of Dame Princess Lolo Chinwendu Omeje Ogbonna to that of Ngozi Okonjo-Iwealla who was appointed Minister of Finance and Economy by President Goodluck Jonathan, via the South South slot while she is married to Abia State.

They explained that women are special breeds created by God to either represent their parents origen zone/quater or husband’s zone/quater when duty of service calls upon them. Dame Princess Lolo Chinwendu Omeje Ogbonna who is a worthy daughter of Late Igwe Jonathan Omeje of Ibagwa Aka, is in this situation representing both her parents origen zone/quarter and that of her husband’s zone/quarter and there’s nothing to worry about on this matter.

In the administration of Barr. Sullivan Chime, Dame Ifeoma Nwobodo is by origine from Udi but married to Nkanu East and she was appointed Chief of Staff on both grounds. There are too many other similar circumstances of this scenario that cannot be listed here for the sake of time factor.

While mirroring on the personality of Barr. Ugochukwu Fedinand Ukwueze, the PDP Candidate for the Igbo-Eze South Chairmanship Election, who is equally a Prince from Umulolo Ovoko Kingdom in Ekete Development Center which falls within the Igbo-Eze South East Zone of the Local Government Area, the concerned indigenes of Igbo-Eze South described him as a perfect gentleman and one whose regime will ride on the vehicle of inclusive governance as against segregation.

They assured that with the verse nature of the experience garnered by Barr. Ugochukwu Fedinand Ukwueze, he has the capacity to woe more fans for the Governor of Enugu State from across all the political divides of the local government.

They believe that Barr. Ugochukwu Fedinand Ukwueze has the humility and unequaled sense of humor to persuade aggrieved members of the PDP to return back to the party and create an enabling environment for the success of the administration of His Excellency, Barr. Peter Mbah, which is paramount at the moment.

While noting that political supports are earned on the wheels of persuasion and good/receptive governance, as against force, segregation and marginalization, they maintained that Barr. Ugochukwu Fedinand Ukwueze has the temperament of being a bridge builder and a unifier of interests for the good of the local government in general and the entire state government ably led by Barr. Peter Mbah.

They listed some of the positions Barr. Ugochukwu Fedinand Ukwueze has occupied to include; the immediate past Chairman of NBA Nsukka Branch, the immediate past Coordinating Chairman of the Barr in Enugu State, An Active member of the National Executive Council of the Nigerian Bar Association, former S.A to the Governor among other positions too numerous to mention.

Besides thriving in his legal practice, he is a real estate investor, Agro-farmer and an employer of labour through his flourishing Schools situated both in the state capital and Nsukka municipal.

Ukwueze is a consummate party man whose various contributions to the party during the past election are common knowledge. He funded and as well as co-funded many PDP campaigns platforms during the past general elections including; Empowerment of one thousand less privileged widows and orphans with cash, Car, Tricycle and bags of rice branded with the Governor’s picture (In this event, Dr Dan Shere, represented the His Excellency, the Governor).

Furthermore, he hosted a campaign rally and Dinner in honor of the governor inside the UNN community where His Excellency was represented by the current Chief of Staff, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and HRH, Igwe Okeke Arum.

The PDP Chairmanship candidate for the forthcoming local government election, also co-funded the famous “A date With Peter Mbah” youth based rally held in the IMT Campus, Enugu. Born with blue blood, Barr Ferdinand’s humility and strength of connectivity with diverse strata in the society stands him out.

Shock Proposal? Senator Pushes Bill to Recognize Native Doctors’ Role in Connecting With Ancestors

Published

on

Garba Maidoki, senator representing Kebbi south, has called for the inclusion of traditional medicine in a bill seeking to overhaul
Nigeria’s food and drug regulatory framework.

He argues that indigenous healing practices remain relevant, particularly in rural communities.

The senator spoke on Tuesday during debate on a bill seeking to repeal the Food, Drug and Related Products (Registration, Etc.) Act and the
Food and Drug Act, and replace them with a single legal framework for regulating food, medicines and other products that affect public health.

‘MOST RURAL DWELLERS RELY ON TRADITIONAL MEDICINE’

Speaking in support of the bill sponsored by Sadiq Umar, senator representing Kwara north, Maidoki said the legislation should also
recognise traditional medicine.

“I rise to also support this motion ably sponsored by Senator Suleiman Sadiq. This motion, as my colleague said, is apt, is timely,
and is in good faith to modernise the practice of food and drug registration in Nigeria,” he said.

“But Mr. President, I want to bring to your attention that even though this is modernised, we have not seen anything on this bill
concerning traditional medicine.

“Concerning traditional medicine, sir, most of our rural dwellers, most of them rely mostly on this traditional medicine.

“And I think it is high time that we have a law that also allows traditional medicine to be implemented.

“Holistically, if this is done, we will also reduce the cost of importation of drugs from foreign nations, and we will rely mostly on our
own indigenous herbs and medication by our own native doctors.”

Maidoki said incorporating traditional medicine into the legal framework would reduce dependence on imported medicines.

He added that the bill’s sponsor, a pharmacist, should work towards integrating traditional practitioners into the country’s healthcare
system.

“I think if this is done, the pharmacist Senator Suleiman will be able to incorporate these people and make this holistic,” he said.

The lawmaker said some ailments are better treated with herbal remedies than orthodox medicine.

“Even some of us that are senators, sometimes we rely, we go to herbal medicine to help us with one ailment or the other, which sometimes
the modern medicine has no answer. Like if your ancestors decide to talk to you, you need a native doctor to intercede on your behalf,” he added.

Maidoki’s remarks elicited laughter in the senate chamber.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio responded in a light-hearted manner.

“Thank you, Distinguished Senator Garba. The native doctor will intercede between you and the ancestor,” he said.

“It’s actually baffling that this was part of the African religion, but when the white people came, they now told us that we don’t need
our ancestors, but I think from what you are saying, you are still using your ancestors.”

The bill later passed second reading after receiving the support of lawmakers.

If enacted, the legislation will repeal two existing food and drug laws and establish a unified regulatory framework covering food,
medicines, vaccines, medical devices and other products that affect public health.

A New Era? US and Saudi Arabia Near Landmark 30-Year Nuclear Agreement

Published

on

The United States is set to announce a landmark 30-year nuclear agreement with Saudi Arabia, aimed at establishing a civilian nuclear program in the kingdom, according to reports from US media outlets.

The deal, expected to be unveiled Wednesday, comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
The New York Times cited US officials confirming that the Trump administration would formally sign and announce the agreement, which is projected to generate billions of dollars for the US nuclear industry.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the pact could allow US companies to build a uranium enrichment facility in Saudi Arabia.
However, the proposal has drawn opposition from US lawmakers across party lines and Israeli officials, who fear the program could be diverted toward developing nuclear weapons.
While the deal will be submitted to Congress, its approval is not required for implementation. Washington has also sought to link the nuclear agreement to broader strategic goals, including Saudi Arabia’s potential normalization of ties with Israel and a US-Saudi defense pact.
Saudi Arabia has long insisted on its right to pursue a civilian nuclear program, similar to the UAE, which signed a nuclear deal with Washington in 2009 but does not enrich uranium.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking in Manila, declined to confirm the deal but assured that Washington would not enter any agreement that risks nuclear proliferation.
The announcement comes as the US war with Iran continues to destabilize the region, with Yemen’s Houthi rebels threatening to blockade Saudi ports, a move that could disrupt global oil supplies.

After Weeks of Speculation, Ogun Assembly Reaches Verdict on Oluomo

on

The Ogun State House of Assembly has officially exonerated former Speaker Olakunle Oluomo of embezzlement allegations tied to his removal from office in 2024.

During Wednesday’s plenary at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, lawmakers adopted a resolution that commuted Oluomo’s impeachment to a resignation.
