Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect, Recover Imitation Firearm In Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man for alleged armed robbery and recovered an imitation firearm during a late-night operation in Enugu metropolis.

The suspect, identified as Oshim Lambert Chimuanya, was arrested at about 11:30 p.m. on December 13, 2025, at Agric Bank Bus Stop in Independence Layout, Enugu, following a distress call received by operatives attached to the Independence Layout Police Division.

Police authorities said officers responded promptly to the alert and apprehended the suspect while he was allegedly robbing a member of the public.

A revolver imitation pistol loaded with eight toy bullets was recovered from the suspect at the scene, according to the police.

Confirming the development, the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said the suspect is currently in custody and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr. Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has directed operatives to sustain the ongoing clampdown on criminal activities, particularly during the Yuletide season.

Mr. Giwa also urged residents to continue to cooperate with the police by providing timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and detection.

The police assured residents of their commitment to maintaining peace and security across Enugu State during the festive period and beyond.
