YPP Guber Candidate Debunks Narrative On Onitsha FMC brawl Involving Anambra Commissioner

Published

Paul Chukwuma, Anambra YPP Guber Candidate

The candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), in the November 8, 2025 Anambra governorship election, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has refuted that narrative trended by the ruling party on the Onitsha Federal Medical Center (FMC), incident involving the Commissioner for youth, Mr Patrick Agha Mba.

APGA had accused the security aides attached to Chukwuma of attacking Agha Mba and overpowering him after they attempted to remove the victims of the Onitsha Main market shooting and move them to an unknown location.

According to the ruling party, to prevent the move, the State Commissioner for Youth intervened but was severely assaulted by the security personnel accompanying Paul Chukwuma.

Reactive to the narrative, the campaign team of Sir Paul Chukwuma accused APGA of turning facts on its heads.

The campaign team explained that the Commissioner, who was on illicit mission was resisted by the relatives of the victims of the shooting, who earnestly wanted Chukwuma to move their loved ones to a better hospital for inadequate treatment.

The SPC Media, accused the commissioner of blocking the entrance gate to the hospital with a car and denying the gunshot victims access to a better healthcare, just because he wanted to score cheap political point and prove loyalty to his Principal.

“We have seen the video of Sir Paul Chukwuma’s intervention at the Onitsha Medical Centre, now in circulation by the failed APGA government in Anambra State.”

“This is part of the ongoing efforts of Soludo’s government to keep grappling with straws, in a bid to avoid serious engagement regarding his performance so far.”

“We, however, sympathize with them because we reckon that such behavior is expected from an outgoing government, with nothing left to offer.”

“A few days ago, the Governorship candidate of the YPP, Sir Paul Chukwuma, had to suspend his initial campaign plans to respond to an emergency arising from the violence meted out to innocent traders by operatives of the Anambra State Government, leading to some deaths, right in the heart of the main market in Onitsha.”

“This shocking incident immediately triggered the traders to their wits’ end, leading to the destruction of vehicles belonging to the leaders of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra State – OCHA Brigade, accused of leading the onslaught on the traders. The agency’s office was also vandalized.”

“This was the situation in the market when Sir Paul Chukwuma arrived in the main market, Onitsha, and pleaded with the traders to remain calm and law-abiding. This can be seen in the video of Paul Chukwuma’s outing in the market.”

“Responding to the complaints that some of the injured traders during the attack by the government operatives have not been admitted or are not receiving adequate treatment at the hospital where they were taken, Sir Paul Chukwuma then assured that he was going to the hospital to ensure that they are treated and adequately taken care of.”

“Upon arrival at the hospital, Paul Chukwuma was asked to get an ambulance if he wanted to have the injured traders transferred to another hospital, and he complied. While the injured were taken into the waiting ambulance arranged by Paul Chukwuma, a branded sienna vehicle approached the gate and blocked the entrance gate.”

“A government official then disembarked from the vehicle and immediately proceeded to the hospital, ordering them to shut their doors.”

“Realizing that the occupant of the sienna is a serving official of the same government whose operatives killed their relatives and injured others, some of the relatives launched an attack on the government official. In fact, the government official first earned the wrath of the people when he ordered the hospital to close its doors.”

“This infuriated the relatives of the injured and deceased who were present. At this point, the official of the government was immediately asked to leave the place and to remove his vehicle, which he had used to block the gate.”

“The video now being shared by the same APGA government, which only a few days ago unleashed terror on innocent businessmen and women in their shops at the main market in Onitsha, suddenly dares to revive its dead conscience, days after its debased argument over virginity and DNA tests.”

“The government official in the video was saved from being manhandled through the intervention of YPP team members, who tried to stop the angry traders from hitting him. This can be seen clearly in the video they are sharing.”

“The APGA government in Anambra State must take note that they are at cross purposes with the people of Anambra State, and no amount of attempts to derail credible and healthy competition from the YPP, Sir Paul Chukwuma, and his Deputy, Uzu Okagbue, can stand.”

“What we are asking is simple: the governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo, must tell us what he has done with the billions of public funds he has overseen for and on behalf of the people and government of Anambra State in over three years.”

Shock Proposal? Senator Pushes Bill to Recognize Native Doctors’ Role in Connecting With Ancestors

Published

on

Garba Maidoki, senator representing Kebbi south, has called for the inclusion of traditional medicine in a bill seeking to overhaul
Nigeria’s food and drug regulatory framework.

He argues that indigenous healing practices remain relevant, particularly in rural communities.

The senator spoke on Tuesday during debate on a bill seeking to repeal the Food, Drug and Related Products (Registration, Etc.) Act and the
Food and Drug Act, and replace them with a single legal framework for regulating food, medicines and other products that affect public health.

‘MOST RURAL DWELLERS RELY ON TRADITIONAL MEDICINE’

Speaking in support of the bill sponsored by Sadiq Umar, senator representing Kwara north, Maidoki said the legislation should also
recognise traditional medicine.

“I rise to also support this motion ably sponsored by Senator Suleiman Sadiq. This motion, as my colleague said, is apt, is timely,
and is in good faith to modernise the practice of food and drug registration in Nigeria,” he said.

“But Mr. President, I want to bring to your attention that even though this is modernised, we have not seen anything on this bill
concerning traditional medicine.

“Concerning traditional medicine, sir, most of our rural dwellers, most of them rely mostly on this traditional medicine.

“And I think it is high time that we have a law that also allows traditional medicine to be implemented.

“Holistically, if this is done, we will also reduce the cost of importation of drugs from foreign nations, and we will rely mostly on our
own indigenous herbs and medication by our own native doctors.”

Maidoki said incorporating traditional medicine into the legal framework would reduce dependence on imported medicines.

He added that the bill’s sponsor, a pharmacist, should work towards integrating traditional practitioners into the country’s healthcare
system.

“I think if this is done, the pharmacist Senator Suleiman will be able to incorporate these people and make this holistic,” he said.

The lawmaker said some ailments are better treated with herbal remedies than orthodox medicine.

“Even some of us that are senators, sometimes we rely, we go to herbal medicine to help us with one ailment or the other, which sometimes
the modern medicine has no answer. Like if your ancestors decide to talk to you, you need a native doctor to intercede on your behalf,” he added.

Maidoki’s remarks elicited laughter in the senate chamber.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio responded in a light-hearted manner.

“Thank you, Distinguished Senator Garba. The native doctor will intercede between you and the ancestor,” he said.

“It’s actually baffling that this was part of the African religion, but when the white people came, they now told us that we don’t need
our ancestors, but I think from what you are saying, you are still using your ancestors.”

The bill later passed second reading after receiving the support of lawmakers.

If enacted, the legislation will repeal two existing food and drug laws and establish a unified regulatory framework covering food,
medicines, vaccines, medical devices and other products that affect public health.

A New Era? US and Saudi Arabia Near Landmark 30-Year Nuclear Agreement

Published

on

The United States is set to announce a landmark 30-year nuclear agreement with Saudi Arabia, aimed at establishing a civilian nuclear program in the kingdom, according to reports from US media outlets.

The deal, expected to be unveiled Wednesday, comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
The New York Times cited US officials confirming that the Trump administration would formally sign and announce the agreement, which is projected to generate billions of dollars for the US nuclear industry.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the pact could allow US companies to build a uranium enrichment facility in Saudi Arabia.
However, the proposal has drawn opposition from US lawmakers across party lines and Israeli officials, who fear the program could be diverted toward developing nuclear weapons.
While the deal will be submitted to Congress, its approval is not required for implementation. Washington has also sought to link the nuclear agreement to broader strategic goals, including Saudi Arabia’s potential normalization of ties with Israel and a US-Saudi defense pact.
Saudi Arabia has long insisted on its right to pursue a civilian nuclear program, similar to the UAE, which signed a nuclear deal with Washington in 2009 but does not enrich uranium.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking in Manila, declined to confirm the deal but assured that Washington would not enter any agreement that risks nuclear proliferation.
The announcement comes as the US war with Iran continues to destabilize the region, with Yemen’s Houthi rebels threatening to blockade Saudi ports, a move that could disrupt global oil supplies.
